Daily writing prompt
What time do you go to bed and wake up currently?

Oh… the sweet world of Morpheus, where I’m not allowed to visit for as long as I need (or want). Whether you’re a night owl or an early bird, we’ve all experienced those restless nights. It’s a shared experience, more common than we’d like to admit. You’re not alone in this.

Yep, around 50 million Americans have Sleep or wakefulness disorders. I know I’m not a fellow American (I’m from Venezuela and have never set foot in the USA), but that doesn’t mean that I don’t feel empathy for those poor souls who have issues falling asleep, waking up, or/staying awake.

But enough about that. My answer to this prompt is that I try to go to bed at 11:30 pm (or earlier) and wake up around 8:30 am. There are exceptions, like the days I go biking around Bogota, waking up early to avoid sunburn. These little quirks make my sleep schedule unique (or inconsistent?).

Now, sleeping is very important for us (besides being a delightful experience, in my personal sleep-loving opinion), so we should ensure we get enough sleep. I’m not a Doctor, so I cannot give advice, and I’ll honestly share that you should take my recommendations with a grain of salt; why? I will share some tips on how to sleep better that I have learned throughout my life (but don’t apply most of the time) and that Pokemon Sleep recommends (find Pokemon Sleep articles here).

  • Refrain from exercising or taking long hot baths two hours before sleep.
    • Exercising or taking long hot baths raises your body temperature, making it harder to fall asleep.
  • Take your meal around 2 hours or more before going to bed.
    • Being too full (or, worse, hungry) won’t let us rest our best.
  • Make your room darkโ€”the darker, the better.
    • Try to avoid using devices one hour before going to bed.

You can learn more about sleep and get more recommendations here. Is there something in particular you would recommend to a fellow sleep-deprived folk? Your tips are valuable, so please share them in the comments.ments. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful sleep today.
