Daily writing prompt
What could you do differently?

I write this with a total of beautiful 8.7 hours of sleep. Yesterday I was extremely tired, and I had to use all of my willpower not to take a nap in the afternoon.

I went to bed at 10 pm, did a short meditation, and then fell asleep. I woke up around 11 pm because my partner came to bed. I took the opportunity to go to the bathroom (my bladder got surprisingly full in just one hour).

My one caffeine-free week made me realize I wasn’t sleeping enough. I use coffee to hide my body’s tiredness. That needs to stop.

I am not drinking coffee from Friday to Sunday, and I am going to bed earlier. I’m also usually limiting my water intake so I don’t get betrayed by my baby bladder. You see, I hate to disrupt my sleep by going to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Wanting to improve my sleep sounds quite boring, but it’s backed by… science 😀 If you don’t believe me, believe Dr Sohaib and the interview he had with Verywell Health.

So, I kindly invite you to be a bit boring like me this 2026 and include sleeping more as one of your goals for the year! Sweet dreams 🙂

I’m curious, did that 8.7 hours of sleep make a big difference for you today? 😊

I realized to my horror that it seems that 8.7 hours is the minimum of sleep I need, and that 9 hours is more likely the optimal sleep time for me. It might be more 🙂 What I can tell you for sure is that with less than 8 hours of sleep my brain gets all foggy!
