Bloganuary writing prompt
Write about a few of your favorite family traditions.

I have a not-perfect yet wonderful family, and we have gatherings for many occasions and celebrations. Imagine having smaller versions of Thanksgiving dinners several times per year, being the most important Christmas and New Year. For reasons beyond my understanding, we always gather in the kitchen instead of the living room. It gets kinda crowded, but it is totally worth it.

A photo of my beloved mom.

It hurts a bit to write this because I have lived in Colombia for four years and haven’t had the opportunity to be in so many family reunions. I have to work extremely hard to be able to travel this year.

This is a quesillo. It’s my signature dessert.

On my next visit, I plan on doing Quesillos for them. The Quesillo is a dessert similar to a flan but has more caramel and a different texture (not as wiggly). I’m curious: do you have a family tradition that doesn’t revolve around food? I just noticed how food-centered our reunions tend to be!

Your non-perfect family is very “normal,” making it “perfect!” Thanks for the “SHARE!”

Aww, that is so sweet. I learned to prepare it as an adult, and I enjoy how easy it is and to share the recipe with my friends and family.
